Nintendo Responsible for Box Art Blunder

In a statement released by a CapCom representative today, Nintendo's label-making software was criticized after Resident Evil: Revelations for Nintendo 3DS shipped with a spelling error on the spine. “We are used to cover editing software having an auto-correct for spelling mistakes,” said CapCom marketing director Ron Standard, “so we didn't know what the red underline meant.” He went on to say that Nintendo's outdated 3DS case imaging software is the reason that the typo exists, and that they shouldn't be expected to put in the effort to fix typos.

Furthermore, CapCom criticized Nintendo's lack of 3DS case patching when discussing the fix for the mistake. “Due to Nintendo's shortsightedness in designing 3DS software cases, we are not able to issue a downloadable patch, and must instead go the more expensive route of printing new cover art for both new and existing copies of the game.” This, he says, will further increase the production cost of the game, after the price was already cut down to reasonable levels when the company realized they “couldn't slight customers into paying a premium for a game we actually put effort in making.”

Rumours are circulating that CapCom has locked the game's ending as $10 DLC, but Ron declined to comment “until after the game launches.”

Site Chat Tonight!

Yes, indeed, it is technically Wednesday so I thought I'd get this posted. There will (as always) be a site chat this Wednesday evening at 8PM EST. I will see you there! Why am I up so late? Well, while it's not uncommon for me to be up real late, I have a mild cold at the moment and its messing with my sleep habits. I fell asleep around 9PM and woke up about an hour ago. I'll probably do a few rounds of MK7 and then get my other 20 winks. Since I stayed home today and did very little work, I busted out two Wii games from my backlog... Lost in Shadow and Bit.Trip Complete. Both games are..... WAY HARDER THAN I EXPECTED. Maybe my skills are just dull due to this common cold? Regardless, we can discuss these games and many more in tonight's site chat. See ya there!

Nano Assault box art blunder?

As many of you know, Christmas 2011 was the day I joined the ranks of those who live in the third dimension ... of gaming! Or something... basically, it's when I got a 3DS. One of the games I had been most interested in was the alarmingly budget-friendly ($20!) Nano Assault.

I had dabbled in Nanostray 1 and 2 for the DS. But the third installment in the series, Nano Assault, really looked like the shmup fix I'd been jonesing for. After picking up the game and savoring its gorgeous visuals and glorious shmuppy-good gameplay, I turned to admiring its snazzy box art when I realized.... the ship is completely backwards!

Observe...

If you look at the in-game ship, the rounded surface is the front and the back has several metallic pillars (shafts?) sticking out - one from the center and then one on each diagonal corner. The center pillar emits propulsion exhaust to propel the ship forward while the other pillars act as back-swept wings of sorts.

However, the box art seems to have a trail of propulsion exhaust bending from around the alien cell in the background to the rounded surface of the ship. Meanwhile, laser blasts are firing from the metallic pillars and culminate in some kind of explosion. Seems like if I were designing a (nanoscopic) fighter jet I would put the weapons facing forward, wouldn't you? This all implies a forward-swept design in the wings and thus that the layout of the ship is entirely backwards!

So what's the deal? Am I crazy or is this an honest to goodness gaff? How could such a major error make it to the box art's final design? Who could be responsible?

What do you think?

Happy New Years Nintemple! Site Chat Tonight!

Happy Near Years NinTemple! It's Supa, and I just want to take this time to say thank you to everyone here at NinTemple for such a great year.

I remember feeling really bummed out one day, about not having anyone to talk to about videogames, (especially Nintendo ones) at the level I wanted to talk about them. This feeling struck me after hearing an old E3 recording by Mr. Metts on the NWR website. He delivered such passion, such knowledge, and he was about the same age as me. And that's when I realized... "Hey I want to do what he's doing."

Well a man by the name of Ninsage reached out to me, and invited me with open arms to his website, highly dedicated to the thing I loved. The rest is history. That being said, I really appreciate you all, and you don't know how awesome it is to be able to talk to the same group of people about not just videogames, but life as well.

Happy 2012 there NinTemple! Take it easy... ;)
