Dragon Quest X still for the Wii

In an interview with Yuji Horii in the most recent Nintendo Power Horii said that the title would still be released for the Wii.Also that there would be news by the end of the year regarding the game. Here is the exchange between Nintendo Power and Horii.

Nintendo Power: Do you see any advantages to making Dragon Quest on a home console again?

Yuji Horii: The next Dragon Quest game, Dragon Quest X, will actually be released on Wii. I feel that some users will want to play Dragon Quest on the big screen, which is why we are working toward releasing it on Wii. Of course, in the future we might develop on handhelds again, so it's really a case-by-case basis. It all depends on what the customer wants at that time. Something else we hear is that players want a new Dragon Quest that follows the same system of Dragon Quest VIII, so that's something else we're taking into consideration while in development for a Dragon Quest on Wii.

Nintendo Power: Is development on Dragon Quest X proceeding smoothly?

Yuji Horii: All we can say is that development is going well and we're on the last parts of the game. We can't really share much else at this point, but by the end of this year we should be able to announce something regarding it.

So are you still looking forward to Dragon Quest X? Are you like me and haven't played any Dragon Quest games yet? Your thoughts on the series as a whole if you have played them?

DQ is probably my favorite RPG franchise. So, yea, I'm looking forward to it!

However, I gotta say I'm a little anxious since there has been ZERO information about the game.

I feel like this game could really be ANYTHING.

It might be a stripped down multi-player thing that interacts with the DS like FFCC:Echoes of Time did.

It might be a grandiose single player adventure along the lines of DQ8.

It could be "another" Dragon Quest as some critics of the series would say, or it might be completely radical and scare off the long-time fans.

Thanks for the info, Maximillion ^_^

Yeah it does seem to be that we haven't gotten any info since it was announce way back in 2008 at one of those Japan events.

This is just speculation on my part but here is what would be cool for Dragon Quest 10. Expand on the friend joining your team from Dragon Quest IX. Make it a single player game but give the option for a friend to join you. Maybe have something like in Animal Crossing where in that game your store had certain items and in Dragon Quest X have it be your friend has different weapons, armor and maybe rare items.

I'll just throw out some speculation.
I think Dragon Quest X should take some inspiration from Dragon Quest IX in that it has a way of your friends can join your game.

Also something like Animal Crossing where you have your own items for your game.Something like Certain games will have a set of armor, weapons and items that your friend might not be able to get in their weapon, armor and item shops.

This would encourage players to play together more.

Dragon Quest X is a mainline entry in the series, so it's pretty clear what it is going to be: a grind-heavy RPG that's light on story with random encounters and a class system. If they were going to deviate from that, then they would make it a spin-off game, like they did with Dragon Quest Monsters, Rocket Slime, etc. The only real question surrounding it is if it will incorporate the multiplayer features found in Dragon Quest IX on the DS. If it does, then it will have to be online for that to work.

As far as the Dragon Quest VIII comment, that could mean anything, if they follow through on it. It could be what they plan to do with Dragon Quest XI, but it most likely means they are remaking VIII, which could be on Wii or 3DS. Though you never know, maybe they'll take a page from Final Fantasy and create a Dragon Quest VIII-2.
